Jadhav cremated on his son’s first birthday

In a heart wrenching co-incidence, the soldier Sandip Jadhav, who was killed in an attack by Pakistan on Friday, was cremated on the first birthday of his one-year-old son on Satruday.

Naik Sandip Jadhav of Maratha Light Infantry died during an operation in Poonch district along the Line of Control. His body was flown to Pune and later taken to Aurangabad on Friday. The mood in his village in Kelgoan in Sillod taluka in Aurangabad was of immense sadness and mourning. His body was kept for people to pay last respects prior to the cremation.

On Saturday was his son Shivendra’s first birthday. He has asked his family to celebrate it in a big way. He had requested them to send celebratio­n photograph­s to him and had also said that he would be celebratin­g Shivendra’s birthday with his friends in Poonch.

Though he had promised his family that he would try to come home for his son’s birthday he could not get leave. Instead his body was carried to the village that brought all the villagers to tears.

Sandip was about to retire from the army in 18 months. He had plans to make his own house at Sillod. He had a wish to send all the children to a good school so that they could pursue higher studies.

His friends said that he always wanted to join armed forced and wanted to do something for the nation.

“Whenever he comes to the village he used to gather all the children and would guide them on how to enrol in the Army,” said one of Sandip’s friends. Though he was just 12th passed, he would encourage kids to study hard and achieve success.
