SRA project resident’s issues not addressed for four years

- SAGAR PILLAI ● Mumbai

Even though Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) blames housing societies for delays in project, it has failed to address issues of occupants of their rehab structures. In a similar incident, Mubina Khan, a 42year-old Kurla resident, is running from pillar to post for more than four years for rectifying an error on the allotment letter of her flat in the rehab structure. However, the authority has turned a blind eye to her problems.

In spite of mentioning her husband’s name as the owner of the flat, officials have mentioned a different name which can lead to a major issue in the future. Khan alleged that SRA officials are asking her to submit unrelated documents after which the correction will be made.

Even after submitting all the documents, the authority has failed to address the issue.

“Officers concerned are transferred every year and I have to keep explaining my issues to each of them. Despite submitting several proofs and documents, my issue remains unsolved. I am a working woman because of which it is difficult for me to keep visiting their offices time and again.”

Khan added that members of the society’s managing committee have refused to help her. “When the project started, members assured that the error in the allotment letter will be rectified. Following an argument with one of the members over delaying the process, they refused to help me,” she said.

Speaking exclusively to Free Press Journal, a senior SRA official said, “Numerous projects are delayed due to disputes between members of society and slumdwellers. For instance, the housing society of Khan’s rehab structure issued a complaint against her application stating that the name correction is fake further delaying the entire process.”
