College authorities are still grappling with the FYJC process
Admissions date extended till June 29
The admission process for junior colleges have begun which college authorities say are complicated as compared to degree college admissions.
The FYJC (First Year Junior College) admission process is determined by factors like online errors, the colleges have no control over admission of students or the cut-off marks as they have to submit all of this to the state education department which is the ultimate authority.
To ease the process and help students the FYJC admission process is now extended by two days from June 27 to June 29 till 5 pm.
The college authorities said the FYJC admission process is a bit problematic as compared to the degree college.
A senior official from KC College at Churchgate said, “In the FYJC admission process students faced technical errors, the website hung and the system was shut. Even the process of giving preference of 1-10 colleges adds to the confusion as students are not sure about where will they get admission.”
The state education department on Tuesday decided to extend the admission deadline considering the errors and the website was also shut for a day for maintenance. Over two lakh students have successfully registered and around 4,000 to 5,000 more applicants are expected.
In fact, on Friday the education department told Free Press Journal that the deadline would not be extended as the website was functioning accurately.
Rajendra Ahire, assistant deputy director of education, said, “After the day of maintenance, we have not received any complaints about errors in the online admission process. The deadline will not be extended.”
But now this extension has come into play to cater to those students who could not register online.
Students though irked by the process are glad about this extension. Amaan Shaikh, a student, said, “I took two to three days to complete my admission process. One day I could just fill the part 1 form where we have to mention our personal details. Then the website was slow to load so it took another two days for me to fill the part 2 form of stating college preferences.”
