Heavy rain leads to traffic, disruption­s, water-logging

Heavy rains, which lashed the city on Tuesday morning, caused major delay of local train services on the Central and Harbour lines. The services on the Central line were delayed by more than half an hour due to water-logging reported between Sion and Kurla stations from 5:57am to 6:43am.

Due to this, at least 13 local train services were cancelled. The train services on the Western line were delayed by 15 minutes due to heavy rainfall. The heavy rains also caused the Wi-Fi router at Thane station to stop working as rain water seeped into it.

Despite pumps installed at these stations, heavy rains caused water-logging on the railway tracks. Passengers at Sion and Kurla stations were seen waiting for more than two hours on the railway platforms due to waterloggi­ng.

IMD has issued a heavy rainfall warning in areas of Konkan, Goa and Mumbai for the next three days.

On Tuesday, there were heavy rains reported at Worli (70mm), Chembur (82mm), Shivaji Park (83 mm) and Bandra (66mm). The city also witnessed high tide of 4.81metres around 2:30pm.

IMD officials said that there would be widespread rainfall in the city for the next three days. “There is a formation of an offshore turf (weather system) which is moving from South Gujarat to Kerala coast. This weather system would bring heavy rainfall in Mumbai and North Konkan region,” said K S Hosalikar, Deputy Director-General, Western region at IMD.
