- DIWAKAR SHARMA

The body Pawandeep Singh Kohli, son of a top businessman, was recovered from the sea near Taj Lands End Hotel at Bandra West on Monday. The 24-year-old youth had gone missing on Sunday. Police said he possibly committed suicide by jumping from the the Bandra-Worli Sealink.

“We received information around 9:30 am that a body was seen near the rocks at Bandra Fort. Police rushed to the spot and retrieved it,” an officer said. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.

“The deceased was identified by his father,” senior police inspector, Bandra, Pandit Thackeray, said.

A resident of Pali Hill, Kohli was depressed after he came to know that his girlfriend was getting engaged with somebody else. The police have recovered a suicide note in which he named four people, including his girlfriend.

Sources said that on Sunday night, Kohli left home after having dinner. “His mother asked him to take his car, but he said that he preferred taking a taxi. At Bandra-Worli sealink, Kohli asked the driver to stop the car and said he wanted to commit suicide. The driver tried to convince Kohli not to end his life. But he was in no frame of mind to listen and instead took off his belt and tried to strangulate the driver with it. The moment the driver stopped the taxi, Kohli got out of the car and jumped off the Sealink,” a resident of Pali Hill said.

“The boy has left a suicide note and has blamed four friends including his girlfriend. We are in the process of recording their statements,” police said.
