Bodies of a couple found in a quarry at Pune

The bodies a 28-year-old boy and a 20-year-old girl were found in a pond of a quarry in Pune on Monday. According to the police, they seemed to have committed suicide due to a love affair but investigat­ions are on to find out the exact reason of the suicide.

The deceased have been identified as Sunny Amol Jagtap (28), a sweeper working for a private company and Shital Dattu Gaikwad. Both are residents of Vishrantwa­di, Pune.

Kamalakar Takwale, the police inspector of Vishrantwa­di, said, “We received a call in the morning at around 8 am that the body of a girl was floating in the water at a quarry at Vishrantwa­di. Our team got that body out and tried to search if there were other people in the quarry. After searching for two hours, we found the body of boy who was had his Pan Card and a photograph of the girl whose body we found in his pocket.”

He added, “We sent their bodies for post-mortem and as per the report they died due to drowning. Both used to work as sweepers in a private company. Three months ago the boy had left his job and had joined as a sweeper in another company.”

He added, “Primary investigat­ions suggest that they committed suicide due to their love affair. But we are trying to find out the exact reason. Families of both the boy and girl claim that they were not aware of their relationsh­ip and hence there was no way they could have disapprove­d their relationsh­ip.”
