Cong asks CM to intervene in Indu Sarkar’s release
More trouble for Indu Sarkar. Senior Congress leader Radhakrishna VikhePatil sought the intervention of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the release of the film ‘Indu Sarkar’, saying party workers may hit the streets if history is distorted.
“We have demanded the CM's intervention over the release of the film ‘Indu Sarkar’ as there are talks that history has been distorted. The film is based on the lives of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi,” Vikhe-Patil, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly told reporters.
“If our apprehensions that history has been distorted is found to be true, it will hurt the sentiments of people. Also, if an attempt is made to malign the image of the Congress leaders, party workers may hit the streets in protest,” he added.
Vikhe-Patil said that to avoid any untoward incident and to maintain law and order, the Chief Minister should intervene.
“Indu Sarkar” is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and is based on the Emergency. It is slated to release on July 28.
Earlier Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam wrote to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief Pahlaj Nihalani sharing his concern over the portrayal of party veterans like Indira Gandhi, Sanjay Gandhi and other senior leaders of Indian National Congress in the film.
He had demanded the film be shown to Congress leaders ahead of release.
