The Law Of Abundance

- — T.G.L. Iyer

William Shakespeare wrote: “It is the mind that makes the body rich.” In the process of enriching the mind, abundance starts. The way to demonstrate abundance is to hold it constantly in the mind, and constantly say to the self, “The Lord is my master. All that he has is mine and I shall not want anything.” The fundamental principle involved in abundance is our inseparable connection with the universe. It is in our sense of separateness that we become poor and helpless. The single greatest tool we have for changing our lives, creating abundance and leading the life we wish, is within us. This instrument is our own mind and the thought emanating from it. Our mind is capable of solving every challenge we encounter, as it is under our absolute command. It is exactly like a computer needs only instructions before it can take action and deliver results. Just as the computer needs software to operate far beyond our basic internal operating system, we too need software to operate at our highest level beyond our basic level of existence. Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) said, “A man who does not think for himself does not think at all.”

Two men are chained to the wall of the prison; one commits suicide; the other goes on to tell people about the power of the human spirit. Rather than the events of our lives shaping us, it is our beliefs about these events that will give shape to our existence. Change in belief can change our lives completely. The weightlifters of Japan first create a belief in their minds that they can lift a certain weight. After fixing that belief, they lift the weight making it a reality. If the mind refuses to accept that belief, they don’t make any attempt to lift the weight. Self-actualizing people have attained the full use and exploitation of talents, capacities and potentialities that are available within. These are the people who know that they are much more than what they seem externally. Abraham Maslow (1908-1970), the Professor of Psychology at the Harvard University, USA, identified 19 characteristics of a self-actualized person. One of them was ‘values’ based on a positive view of the world; that the universe is not a jungle but essentially an abundant place providing whatever we need to be able to make a happy life.
