Barefoot globetrotter seeks money for his next trip to Malaysia

Russian Bosonogiy Maksimka, who started his journey across the world barefoot four years ago, passed through Bandra on Wednesday.

The Russian globetrotter held up a placard ‘I’m a barefoot world traveller’ to grab attention while raising part of his money for the next trip to Malaysia.

Seeing Maksimka, some looked at him with astonishment and others sympathise with him and then there are a handful who drop coins or notes of low denomination in Maksimka’s steel plate.

Talking to the Free Press Journal, Maksimka said he is an avid yoga fan and a ISKCON devotee. He also carries a photograph of Sathya Sai Baba in his steel plate. “However, my trip around the world barefoot is not related to my yoga practice. I just thought about travelling barefoot. It has no reason,” Maksimka says trying to convey his thoughts with a heavy Russian accent. “I practise yoga. I learnt yoga at the ISKCON temple in Russia. It’s been over two years now and I still practice yoga,” says Maksimka showing off his ‘Hari Krishna’ tattoo in his right arm. He is now spreading awareness about yoga among his friends. The Russian is also a filmmaker and a photographer besides being an ardent traveller.

Wearing a smile, he said, “I like coming back to Asian countries. Before coming to India, I had travelled to Nepal as part of my world trip. Earlier, I have been to Indonesia, China and Thailand,” and added, “I will continue travelling for a long period of time before I finally head home.”

The light eyed traveller held the steel plate with his legs tightly as a crowd starts to flock him but he kept his calm. "It’s been a week that I came to Mumbai and I am staying with my friends in Jogeshwari.”

“I was standing at Andheri yesterday and at Dadar day before,” Maksimka said, after which he stood up with his placard seeking money from passers-by.
