Six-year-old reunited with family by Matunga police

- STAFF REPORTER

In a city that has a very high number of missing children and that is going up daily, stories of lost children reunited with their families are rare.

But one such story is that of the Matunga police that swung into action to reunite a six-year-old boy who was separated from his parents in a market area on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning. Rajdeep who had accompanied his mother Megha (35) to Matunga market got lost in the crowd when his hand slipped from that of his mother. Megha began frantically searching for Rajdeep in the busy marketplace, which was extremely difficult.

Without wasting any time, Rajdeep’s father Dr Prashant Deshmukh immediately filed a missing complaint with Matunga police. Within an hour’s time of reporting the matter, Rajdeep was found near Maheshwari school and junior college at King’s Circle garden by the Matunga police.

According to BM Kakad, Senior Police Inspector, Matunga police station, “Rajdeep was with his mother Megha when he got lost in the crowd. We immediately dispatched a team to trace the missing boy. Rajdeep who was holding his mother’s hand suddenly got lost in the crowd. The child was totally lost and seemed a bit scared when we found him. While looking for his mother, he had started walking alone towards Maheshwari school from where he was found.”

According to the police, nothing untoward happened to him. The team then brought Rajdeep to Matunga police station and reunited him with his parents.

“We are glad that the boy was found safe and sound and has been reunited with his family. Luckily, he did not wander far,” added Kakad.

“We cannot explain our joy. We are thankful to Mumbai police for the kind gesture,” said one of the parents.
