Four arrested for carrying beef in Pune

The arrested persons have been booked under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act

Four people were arrested on Wednesday for carrying 1,050 kg of beef in two different incidents in Pune. Yerwada police arrested two for transporti­ng 1,000 kg of beef from Osmanabad to Mumbai while Faraskhana police arrested two for selling 50 kg of beef in a Pune market.

Yerwada police seized 1,000 kg of beef that was being transporte­d from Osmanabad to Mumbai via Pune in car (MH17BD3154) at 4 am. When the police grilled the driver and one more person in the car about what they were carrying they gave evasive answers. But, later they confirmed that they were transporti­ng beef from Amjadbhai in Osmanabad to Babaluseth in Mumbai. Amjadbhai had killed 1112 bulls to get 1,000 kg of beef that is worth Rs 60,000-70,000.

Mukund Mahajan said, “Yerwada police has arrested Mohammed Arif Ahemedlal Qureshi, 37-years-old, Mohammed Arif Dilbafar Khan, 25-years-old, under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act. Police has sent the team to nab Babalu Sheth from Mumbai and Amjadbhai from Osmanabad.”

In another case, Farashana police seized 50 kg of beef being taken to be sold in the Pune market in two vehicles. Police has arrested two for killing and carrying the beef.

Balkrushna Ambure, police inspector, Faraskhana, said, “After receiving informatio­n from our sources we caught two vehicles near Faraskhana that were transporti­ng beef to be sold. Drivers of vehicles told us it was beef and they took us to shop where a cow was killed. We found more beef at the shop and also found bones and skin of cow. We have arrested two persons Abrar Salim Khan, 42-years-old, and Nadim Qureshi, 32-years-old, from the shop under relevant sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act.”
