MBMC polls: Congress lashes out at CM over ‘false’ promises
Struggling hard to re-establish its diminishing clout in the region, the Mira Bhayandar unit of the Congress party, led by Anil Sawant, launched a blistering attack on the BJP-ruled governance and the Chief Minister for inflating balloons with falsehoods and fake electoral assurances to misleading the local populace just before the upcoming elections for the Mira Bhayandar Municipal corporation (MBMC).
A day after the Chief Minister showered a volley of promises and assurances, during the foundation stonelaying ceremony of the Surya Water Supply Scheme in Mira Road, the local Congress leadership hit back with an almost point-by-point rebuttal during a press meet here on Wednesday.
“While clarity eludes budgetary allocations for most of the much-hyped populist promises such as cement concrete roads, construction of new bridge over Vasai creek, made by the Chief Minister, this government is basking on the glory of past achievements and developmental projects, commissioned during the Congress regime. Even the new fleet of public transport utility granted to the MBMC under the JNNURM project is virtually limping due to the sorry state of buses, prompting us to wave black flags in protest at the event,” charged Sawant.
Terming the allegations as baseless, BJP district president Hemant Mhatre said, “Stunned by the all-round developmental work taken up by the BJP in a span of just two years after it catapulted to power, the Congress like the NCP is on the verge of a wipe-out. It is now reminiscent to a frustrated cat that was scratching a pole at every instance.”
It has been alleged that BJP is spreading fake propaganda by flooding the city with banners and hoardings depicting projects which are either based on verbal assurances or are yet to take off from the drawing boards of concerned agencies.
