Congress workers stop film promo in Pune

- STAFF REPORTER

Congress workers did not allow Bollywood director Madhur Bhandarkar to hold a press conference to promote his film Indu Sarkar in Pune on Saturday. Three of the director’s programs had to be cancelled as Pune Congress Party workers reached the venue of the program before the director could begin.

Indu Sarkar the movie by the director is allegedly based on the life of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. Congress Party alleges that the movie has controversial content against Gandhi and it wants the content to be removed.

He had his first press conference to promote the movie at a hotel at NIBM road Pune. Workers of the Congress reached the venue before the director reach there. Hence, Bhandarkar cancelled his press conference.

Later, Bhandarkar started for a program at Suryadatta Institute in Bavdhan where he was the chief guest. But before he reached there he got to know that Congress workers were already there to disrupt his program and hence he cancelled it.

Later, he reached to Crown Plaza Hotel near Pune Station where he had organised an interaction with the media. But, Ramesh Bagwe, city Congress chief and former home minister (state) along with his workers reached the hotel and Bhandarkar had to cancel that press conference as well.

Ramesh Bagwe, chief Congress Pune, said, “We had asked Bhandarkar for his time to discuss the movie. We also wanted to watch the movie to check if there is anything controversial about Indira Gandhi in his movie Indu Sarkar. He avoided talking to us at three NIBM Road hotel, Crown Plaza Hotel and Suryadatta Institute. If there is nothing controversial in the movie then why is he not ready to talk to us. That means the movie has controversial content.”
