Media profession­al kills self before train over affair

A 28-year-old technician in a news channel committed suicide at Lower Parel by leaping before a running train on Sunday night. He is alleged to have been suffering from depression due to a failed relationsh­ip.

The incident took place on Sunday night at Lower Parel station. Nitin Shirke, an online editor with a television news channel left a suicide post on his Facebook page at 9:50 p.m. after which he committed suicide. As per the post written by Shirke, he has blamed three of his colleagues.

According to the Mumbai Central Government Railway Police, “The motive behind the suicide is a failed relationsh­ip. The GRP had registered an Accidental Death Record (ADR) in this case.

Purshottam Karad, Deputy Commission­er of Police, Government Railway Police said, “An Accidental Death Record has been registered by the Mumbai Central Government Railway police. An inquiry is being conducted in this matter. Based on the inquiry, appropriat­e action will be taken against the three persons mentioned in the suicide note posted by Nitin Shirke on his Facebook timeline.”

“No statements have been recorded as yet. We shall be recording the statements of the family members of Shirke. If required the three persons mentioned in the suicide note will be called for questionin­g,” added Karad.

After reading the post, one of Shirke’s colleagues posted a comment inquiring about him and asking him to call up the concerned colleague. Shirke’s friends who were worried about him called him up to no avail.
