Delayed results: MU provides letter to students aiming for higher studies

Move does not help as universities not willing to wait

- RONALD RODRIGUES

Lakhs of students opting for higher studies out of Mumbai or India can avail of a letter stating the delayed result from the Mumbai University (MU). This letter will inform the concerned institutions to consider the admissions of students as the results are delayed. But unfortunately this letter is not proving of much help to students.

Students stated that some of them did not know that the MU was giving such letters. Secondly, the other institutes or universities in India and abroad are not aware that such letters are being provided. The institutions are not accepting this letter because they cannot wait and block seats if the marksheets are not present.

Though the varsity is trying hard to declare results of around 426 examinations by July 31 there is no assurance. Unnati Sachdev, a student said, "The MU should inform the other institutes of India to consider admissions based on this letter. If the communication is done from one university to another then the students will not have to suffer pleading to convince the institutions to consider our case. I want to study out of Mumbai but all I can do is wait for my final year Psychology result as it is already July and no university is India is ready to wait."

While, other universities cannot block seats because if the students fail when their results are declared then the seats will go waste. Another student said, "The foreign universities have large number of applicants so they cannot wait for us. It is not fair towards other applicants who are from different parts of the world. And we ourselves are not sure if our results will be declared by July 31 so we cannot even assure them a specific date."

The varsity stated that the letter is all that they can do apart from the continuous efforts to achieve the July end deadline. Leeladhar Bansod, public relations officer of MU, said, "As of now we are focussing on declaring the results by the said deadline. This letter is the only thing that we can provide students to help them get admissions for further studies."
