Pump checked for fuel theft

In a surprise operation, sleuths of Thane city’s crime branch swooped down on a petrol pump, located opposite SK Stone in Mira Road on Saturday evening to check the authenticity of an information related to alleged manipulations in the dispensing machines. While nothing concrete about any type of malpractices was divulged by the investigating team, normal dispensing activities resumed at the pump after three hours of inspection giving indications that nothing suspicious was found at the outlet.It should be noted that the Thane crime branch has played an instrumental role in busting a state-wide petrol pump racket where customers were being duped by petrol pump owners by manipulating fuel dispensing machines through remote-controlled electronic chips. Several petrol pumps in Thane district are on the police radar for fuel theft.
