India versus China

- — Sarasvati Nagesh

The ongoing turmoil between India and China over Doklam region and frequent warnings given by China emphasizes the need to analyze the military strength of China, backed by its strong claims. According to Global Fire Power 2017 Ranking, China possesses the third most powerful military in the world after US and Russia, whereas India ranks fourth in the list. The Global Fire Power ranking relies on over 50 factors to determine a nation’s power index score. The ranking focuses on weapon diversity. It also considers geographical factors, logistical flexibility, natural resources and local industry influence. However, nuclear stockpiles and political / military leadership is not taken into account. China's military strength in terms of naval assets, combat tanks and aircraft is greater than that of India. On the other hand, the number of military personnel in India exceeds that of China’s. However, India needs to closely monitor the Chinese Revolution in Military affairs (RMA). It is a program that focuses on information welfare, rapid mobility, space welfare, missiles and joint operations of China.
