BDD chawl project gets three bids

After much struggle to find developers for the redevelopment project of Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) at Worli the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority has received three bids so far. This was the third tender call for the project, which involves the redevelopment of 121 buildings.
Confirming the development, Chief Officer of MHADA Subhash Lakhe told FPJ that the response has been satisfactory. "Now evaluation of the bids would be carried out on the departmental level. Following this, a contract
would be awarded after the completion of final procedures."
The tenders for the BDD redevelopment project were first floated in the month of April and were then pushed to June 16 due to lack of response. Following this, the tender dates were postponed to July 17. The official said that the tenders that were supposed to be floated on July 18 which has now be extended to July 27.
This is one of the most ambitious projects in central Mumbai whose tenders are worth Rs 9,000 crore. The project involves the entire revamp of around 121 buildings in Worli, which is spread across over 50 acres of land.
Apart from rehousing the existing tenants in the redeveloped structure, the project will also create 16,000 affordable houses. The existing tenant will receive a 500 square feet apartment each in the redeveloped structure.
