H1N1 cases fall in second half of July

From July 1 to July 28 538 cases of H1N1 infection have been reported and 26 have died in the city.There have been 52 cases of dengue and 49 cases of leptospirosis leading to 3 deaths

The cases of swine flu have decreased in the city as people have started taking preventive measures and are coming for treatment immediately after showing symptoms. In the first week of July, 175 H1N1 cases were reported and in the last week, only 45 H1N1 cases and no deaths have been reported. As per the data provided by the civic health department, 261 patients were hospitalised due to H1N1 in the first two weeks of July which came down to 117 in the last ten days.

The infectious disease consultant said the cases are being handled at the OPD level unless patients fall in the high-risk category. “Even if the cases have been reduced, people showing the symptoms of swine flu should not delay in getting treated,” added Dr Om Shrivastav.

A senior doctor said that though the H1N1 cases have decreased in the second half of the month everyone needs to remain alert. “We are still getting cases of patients showing symptoms of swine flu. We are treating many young patients who are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection,” added a civic official.

According to the report, no deaths have been reported in the last week of July and 378 people from the city and 160 people outside the city were treated showing H1N1 symptoms. Across the state, nearly 340 deaths have been recorded and over 3,015 confirmed cases since the beginning of the year.
