BMC initiates action against Shitap’s illegal structures
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finally awaken from their slumber and started taking action against Sunil Shitap's other illegal structures, who has been arrested by Parksite police for carrying out unethical renovation work at his nursing home which led to the collapse of the Siddhi Sai Building in Ghatkopar.
On Friday, the civic ward of Ghatkopar demolished the illegal structure of Shitap situated just one signal away from the building collapse site at Dhamodar Park.
Vijay Singal, Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) of BMC stated that they are taking stock of all illegal structures especially of Shitap and action has already been initiated against it.
Meanwhile, Assistant Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Bhagyshree Kapse of Ghatkopar ward stated that the action taken on Friday is based on an old complaint against the structures.
The Bombay High Court (HC) had on July 15 ordered to remove the encroached structure and action taken was taken accordingly. However, the AMC failed to answer why it was delayed.
The structure demolished was situated on Andheri Ghatkopar Link road Altaf Nagar (Golibaar) where Shitap was illegally managing a godown of his catering business.
Right now Shitap is in police custody till August 2 after one of the resident LJ Ramchandani lodged a complaint against him for the mishap.
As per the allegations made by the victims' family members, "Even after repeated warning to stop the renovation work he (Shitap) continue with the the work. He touched the pillars of the building, due to which cracks developed (on the foundation structure of building) and the entire ground plus four storeyed building collapsed like a pack of cards."
