MU sets up helpdesk for students going abroad

- RONALD RODRIGUES

After missing the deadline for declaring results many times --- the new one is reportedly sometime around August 15 -Mumbai University has set up a helpdesk to assist students who have gained admission to universities in other states and abroad.

How? The students can request this helpdesk for confidential statement of their marks which will be sent directly to the university where he/she has managed a seat. With a covering letter, students will have to produce proof that they have secured admission to some university along photocopies of marksheets of their previous exam and the hall ticket of the MU examination they appeared for. The helpdesk is on the ground floor of the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Bhavan at MU’s Kalina campus. Angry students said on Wednesday that their patience is being tested as the results have been delayed by over a month. So far, out of a total of 477 examinations, results of only 208 have been declared. The results of 269 exams are still pending, most of them in the commerce and law streams.

Over the last few days, students and political parties have been protesting in the university campus. Rameshwar Shere, senior member of the Students Federation of India (SFI), said, “This delay is unacceptable as the university is just pushing the deadline every day. Vice-Chancellor Sanjay Deshmukh told us that the results will be declared by August 15.”

Sources said that over 2.70 lakh answer scripts are yet to be assessed. Fourteen lakh scripts have been corrected so far.
