Witch hunt for one seat in Guj, tweets Patel

-

Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in a series of tweets has accused the BJP of a “witch hunt just to win one Rajya Sabha seat”. Patel tweeted his opinion as income tax officials visited a resort in Karnataka where 44 of its legislators from Gujarat were housed in an apparent bid to prevent any more defections after six resigned in two days and three of them joining the BJP.

“BJP is on an unprecedented witch hunt just to win one Rajya Sabha seat. After using the state machinery and every other agency (in Gujarat), these IT raids (in Bengaluru) show their utter desperation and frustration,” tweeted Patel. He is camping in Ahmedabad for the said election which is slated for August 8.

Meanwhile, a high-level

delegation of the Congress leaders have also submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission in the evening, seeking immediate directions to ensure safety, security and liberty of the party MLAs to enable them to effectively cast their votes on August 8.

Political observers say it is not the "witch-hunt" as Patel and other Congress leaders are trying to portray it. Amit Shah is also a candidate in the election and it is no secret that Shah has a personal grudge against Patel as the latter was responsible for putting him in jail in fake encounter cases.
