Three boys drown in sea off Dadar chowpatty, probe on DANGEROUS GAME

Teenagers were picnicking on the shore during high tide

Three teenage boys drowned in the sea at Dadar Chowpatty near Shivaji Park on Saturday morning.

The incident took place at 11:30 a.m. when Anup Kumar Jayprakash Yadav (16), his brother Rohitkumar Jayprakash Yadav (15) and Bharat Hanumanta (13) had gone to the beach at Shivaji Park for a picnic. All three boys were students of Unal Mill Municipal Cchool at Dharavi.

While playing on the shore, Bharat ventured into the sea to wash his clothes which had become dirty as sand was stuck to it.

As soon as Bharat stepped into the seawater during the high tide, he was drowning into the huge waves and screamed for help.

On hearing his pleas for help, his friends Anup and Rohitkumar rushed to save him but they also started drowning. A reveller at the beach witnessed the incident and alerted the police and the fire brigade.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (Zone 5) Rajeev Jain, “The bodies of the three teenagers were fished out along with the help of fire brigade officials. The Brihan-Mumbai Municipal Corporatio­n (BMC) had earlier declared the spot as dangerous.”

The body of Bharat was sent to Bhabha hospital in Bandra for post-mortem while those of Anup and Rohitkumar’s were sent to Lokmanya Tilak hospital at Sion. The three boys were residents of Dharavi. A case of Accidental Death Record(ADR) has been registered by the Mahim police station. Further probe into the case is on.
