Final list out, 19K students left out of FYJC

- STAFF REPORTER

Over 9,385 students eyeing for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions are still waiting for a seat in a college after the fourth merit list. The fourth merit list was the final round. These students will thus have to wait for the state education department to decide if there will be a fifth merit round for them.

Out of the total 55,509 applications for this fourth merit round, around 46,124 students have been allotted seats and the list will be officially declared on Sunday. The state education department will send details of the students who have not been allotted a seat to the government which will then direct whether to initiate a fifth merit round.

Along with these 9,385 students, there are around 10,000 other students who were thrown out of the admission system because they did not take admission despite being allotted seats in the first college of their preference list. In addition, there are few students who have not been allotted a seat in any college despite the four merit rounds and some who have willingly not secured admission in any college till now.

These students are sceptical as most seats in all colleges are full and some top colleges have even started their academic year. A senior official from the education department said, “We will send details of all these students to the government. If it directs us to initiate another merit list we will do so. The students will be allotted admissions based on the availability of seats in various junior colleges.”

After the fourth merit round, around 10,472 students have been allotted a seat in science, 31,656 in commerce, 3,528 in arts and 468 in vocational courses (Minimum competency based vocational courses MCVC). While, the junior colleges have also submitted the data of quota seats that were filled at the college level. Around 45,101 students have secured admissions through various quota.
