14 booked for power theft in Shivaji Nagar
The Shivaji Nagar police hasbooked 14 persons for power thefts and threatening the Reliance Energy vigilance squad (east division) while they were installing a theft-proof pillar in Indira Nagar at Bainganwadi in Govandi on Saturday.
As part of their job to prevent power theft,the staff was installing a theft proof pillar at Indira Nagar near Bainganwadi, Govandi. When the accused saw the staff installing the theft-proof pillar, they threatened them with choppers to not install the pillar. The staff then immediately left the place and informed the local Shivaji Nagar police station about the incident. Later, after getting police protection, the staff installed the theft-proof pillar.
Mohammad Akhtar Khan, his brother Anwar Khan alias Mannu Pate, Ayyaz Khan alias Chuwa, Zuber alias Pappa, Ashraf Hashmi, Saddam Israr Khan, Shahabuddin Munwar Ali Idrasi alias Babu Chaddi, Shakil Chorwa, Imran Baba Sher, Abrar Ali alias Bhondu and his four men who threatened to kill the staff of Reliance Energy by
threatening them with deadly weapons while they were performing their duty.
A first information report has been registered for putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion (Section 387), mischief causing damage (Section 427), unlawful assembly (Section 144 and 149), rioting (Section 147 and 148) at Shivaji Nagar Police station against them.
A Reliance Energy spokesperson said, “The damage was done with an intention to take illegal power supply from the pillar. We are taking humongous efforts by filing FIRs against these illegal distributors.”
On July 27, the vigilance squad raided Cheetah camp at Trombay along with the local police and nabbed eight consumers who were using illegal electrical supply from the accused Mohammed Ibrahim Tamboli alias Mithun Baba and two others in return for Rs 200 charges per month. The Trombay police has arrested Tamboli under the Electricity Act 2003. Out of 10 illegal distributors, the police has so far arrested three illegal distributors — Akhtar Qayyam, Saddam Khan and Zuber.
