MU gets new exam dept head but ousted chief still helps to sort out mess

- RONALD RODRIGUES

After the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) has been replaced, now the head of examination department of the Mumbai University (MU) has also been appointed, though not on a full-time basis.

Arjun Ghatule, controller of examination at Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), has been appointed as in-charge director, board of examination and evaluation at the MU in place of Deepak Wasave, who was the temporary head of the examination department.

But Wasave continues to work and help students who are approaching the university every day with their problems of result delay and admissions that are withheld.

These include students who are opting for higher studies in foreign universities and applying for job opportunities abroad.

Wasave held this temporary post for the past two years at the MU.

Ghatule has been appointed for three months or until MU appoints a full-time director. This move has come to expedite results and help in the current mess of result delay.

Recently, Sanjay Deshmukh, V-C of the MU, was sent on indefinite leave and a new acting V-C was appointed. Also, a new acting pro-VC has been appointed.

In addition, the registrar M.A. Khan has been shifted and this post remains vacant too.

Amid these changes, the students fear if their results will be declared accurately as all the top level officers are new. Out of 477 examinations, results of 345 results were declared till Thursday while 132 were pending.
