GRP on the lookout for extortionist TC
The Government Railway Police(GRP) of Kurla on Tuesday registered a case of extortion against an unknown person, who allegedly demanded money from a passenger for producing an invalid platform ticket. The victim is a driver to a lawyer and filed a complaint with the railway police after he narrated the incident to his employer
On August 19, the victim identified as Yadavendra Prabhakar Mishra (25) arrived at LTT station at 12:15am. Mishra was at the station to drop his relatives who were to board an express train which was leaving for Varanasi.
In his statement, Mishra stated that he arrived on platform number three of LTT station with his relatives and parents. He helped his relatives board the general compartment of Varanasi Express and walked towards platform number one to exit the station. Mishra was stopped by a man in his late 30s while he was walking on platform number one. “He was asked to produce a platform ticket by a man dressed in plain clothes and was asked to pay up Rs 600 by after the checker said that the platform ticket produced by him had expired,” wrote Mishra in his complaint.
According to Mishra, the unknown person took him to an office on platform number one and forcefully took Rs 600 from his wallet before letting him go.
The senior railway police officials said that they are scanning the Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) footage installed at LTT station to trace the accused.
"We are also yet to ascertain whether the unknown person was a ticket checker. The victim has given the description of the accused and we are using those description to trace the accused,” said Samadhan Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, GRP, Central Railway.
GRP Kurla has registered a case under the Indian Penal Code section of 384 against the unknown person for punishment of extortion.
