Wife held for the murder of hockey player husband
The Malad police have arrested accused Amita on Wednesday over the killing of her husband Appayya Chenanda, who was a former hockey player.
Amita stabbed him death at their elite apartment in Malad (west) on Saturday when their children were not at home. After killing him, Amita told her neighbours that Chenanda tried to kill her and after he failed to commit sui- cide. There was a cut mark on Amita’s thigh.
However, the zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vikram Deshmane told the Free Press Journal that it was a ‘self-inflicted wound’ and a clear bid to misguide the investigator.
Since the neighbours found her bleeding, Amita was taken to Shatabdi hospital where she was recuperating since then. The to doctors at Shatabdi hospital said that Amita was talking about irrelevant things and suffering from anxiety.
Amita was also referred to Nair hospital for psychiatric observation on Tuesday and Wednesday. She returned to Shatabdi hospital on Wednesday evening and the police arrested her around 5 pm. “We have arrested Amita and on Thursday she will be produced before the court to seek her police custody. We can divulge details only after we interrogate her. The motive behind this murder is still unknown,” said senior inspector of Malad police station Sudhir Mahadik.
“We are interrogating the accused. There was heated argument between the couple on the day of incident. She has yet not confessed to the crime. She is not cooperating us in the investigation,” said an officer from Malad police station.
