The Mumbai Police recently made some earnest efforts to spread awareness on the illeffects of noise pollution but to their misfortune, the move only brought embarrassment to the force.

The city police took it to twitter to spread the awareness on noise pollution and urged the citizens to ensure that a less noise environment is created during the Ganpati festival. However, the tweet was slammed by netizens for “targeting” only Hindu festivals.

In a recent post, the Mumbai police’s twitter handle had made some posts and appealing to the citizens not to use loudspeakers during the Ganesh festival.

With the hashtag of #VighnaFreeMumbai, the post stated, “He (Ganesha) keeps us safe all through the year, let’s take the best care of him on the ten days that he’s here.”

Accordingly, the police had urged citizens to ensure that this year, the festival is free from noise pollution, traffic congestion, eve teasing, street crime and disasters. However, what followed after this post embarrassed the city police that has more than three million followers on Twitter.

Netizens slammed the police and accused it of being “anti-Hindus”.

One of the retweets to the post by one user said, “Once again, you are using a Hindu festival to bring up these issues. Do you do this for Islam, for Eid, for Christmas. Why target Hindus? Why are you associating this with Ganesha festival? These happen 365 days a year”.

Another user tweeted, “Noise pollution is spread365 days a year. Hope police does implement the court order of removing loud speakers from religious institutions.”

“Azaan creates noise pollution 5 times a day, 365 days a year ! Let’s see if Mumbai police has the balls to write something similar for Islam,” another user posted.

Some users also sought an apology from the Mumbai police by tweeting, “We demand written apology from @Mumbai Police for their derogatory remark against Lord Ganesha & hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community.”
