Prime Minister gifts Rs 500-cr package for Bihar’s flood-hit

After conducting a 50 minute aerial survey of the flood-hit regions in Bihar on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a Rs 500-crore relief package for the state. Modi assured "all assistance" to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs two lakh to the kin of the victims and Rs 50,000 for those injured during the floods. "

A central team would be sent to Bihar to access the losses due to the floods," he said. Modi along with Nitish Kumar and his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi, conducted the survey of Kishanganj, Purnea, Katihar and Araria districts of Seemanchal region -- the worst hit. Following the survey, Modi met top central and state officials along with Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi in Purnea to review aid management. The death toll due to floods in Bihar stands at 418 in 19 districts. Sushil Modi expressed his gratitude to Prime minister Narendra Modi and the Centre for the support during flood like situation in Bihar.

“We express our gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for taking out valuable time to visit Bihar and supervise the flood affected areas of Bihar,” Modi said. The Bihar deputy CM alleged that the opposition was trying to politicise the situation instead of supporting for the cause prevailing in the state. Bihar continued to reel under floods with the toll mounting to 440 and 1.71 crore people still affected.
