Disqualification notice served to Ind corporator

After the Bombay HC rejects the plea of Changez Multani, Independent Corporator from Jogeshwari (Ward 62), Civic Commissioner Ajoy Mehta served him a disqualification notice on Thursday.

Multani moved the court to get a stay order on the District Caste Validity Committee (DCVC) decision which disowned his caste validity proofs.

With DCVC’s decision, the next step was to serve disqualification notices to candidates whose certificates were turned down by the scrutiny committee, so as to stop their entry into the BMC committee meetings.

However, DCVC also named Tulip Miranda (Cong), Murji Patel and Kesharben Patel, Pankaj Yadav (BJP) but got stay orders from the HC.

But Multani’s plea got rejected and paves way for the runner-up and two term Shiv Sena Corporator Raju Pednekar to replace him in Jogeshwari ward number 62.

Being a second runner up, he should get the opportunity to replace him, Pednekar said. However, a court has to give order on this issue.

Pednekar earlier served two terms as corporator and claimed that he got defeated as he contested from ward number 62 which has 85% Muslim voters.

“With God’s grace, I would once again get the opportunity to represent my ward. I lost this election as the number of Muslim voters is more.”
