Career of over 1K FYJC students hangs in balance

- STAFF REPORTER

Even after six rounds of admissions for the First Year Junior College (FYJC), students are still running around struggling to get a seat.

Around 1,200 students claimed that they have been been fooled and thrown out of the admission process without their knowledge.

Over hundreds of students along with parents thronged the State Education Department (SED) with various problems like application IDs being locked, seats not allotted in desired colleges and cancellation of admissions.

A large number of students claimed that had their application IDs were blocked, they could have applied for the first come, first served round as they have not secured admission in any college.

These students are in a fix as Monday was the final date for securing admissions at respective colleges and there are over 70,000 vacant seats vacant.

A student waiting in the line at the SED office said, “I have not been allotted a seat in any of the four merit rounds and even in the special round. And now when I tried to apply for this round I could not as the online system indicated that my application is blocked.”

Applications of these students are blocked because the system showed that they have already been admitted to some college.

A senior official of the SED said, “We have received over 1,200 cases where the colleges have awarded admissions based on the application IDs of students. Where vacancies came up, the colleges awarded admissions but the students were not informed. Then these students were thrown out of the admission process because once the admission is secured in a particular college the students are automatically out of the admission system.”

The information of the admission of these students was uploaded by the colleges and sent to the SED.

These students will have to wait as the final vacancy of seats in colleges will be uploaded online on August 30.

“As per directions from the state government, we will consider the cases of the students who are yet to secure admissions,” the official added.
