22k students apply for re-evaluation of MU results

- RONALD RODRIGUES

Around 22,000 students have approached the Mumbai University (MU) for the re-evaluation process. These students have failed or have been given incorrect marks in their results. And these students do not include the students of the Commerce course which is the largest course of the MU with over 1.06 lakh students (including students of Institute of Distance and Open Learning- IDOL).

Students have to approach their respective colleges and pay the revaluation fee in order to apply for the process. These applications will then be considered by the MU where the answer sheets of the students will be allotted to examiners for rechecking. The process of revaluation does not have a fixed timeline but the university aims

to complete the process and produce the new results within 30 days from the date of application.

Surprisingly, the MU itself did not expect such a large number of students would apply for revaluation and the number is only going to increase, because of the high number of technical glitches. Arjun Ghatule, director (incharge), board of examinations and evaluation, said, “We expected around 10,000 to 20,000 cases but we

have already received more cases excluding the commerce course. The commerce course is the largest course of the MU and their results are being declared.”

Around 12 results are pending which include Master of Commerce (M.Com.), and Commerce and other courses of IDOL. Recently, a large number of students of Master of Sociology course of IDOL have been informed to apply for revaluation because they have failed. A student said, “We have seen in the past that the revaluation process normally takes more than a month. This year with all the existing blunders we have no clue when will we get our revaluation results.”

The university is trying its best to clear the revaluation cases and the confusion of results held in Reserve. Ghatule told the Free Press Journal, “Results of 5,900 students of Bachelor of Commerce programme- Semester V and VI that were held in reserve have been cleared. These incremental results comprising of 13,142 answer scripts will be sent to their respective colleges.”

The application for admission to Post Graduate (PG) programmes like M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. and masters in other courses has been extended till September 15.
