Finally, all MU results declared

- RONALD RODRIGUES

After almost a three month long delay all Mumbai University (MU) results have been finally declared. Students are finally relieved as they were eagerly waiting for their results of a total of 477 examinations that were conducted by the university.

Around 30 results were declared initially till July where deadlines after deadlines were announced to complete this process of declaration of the backlog of results. The delay was experienced due to the new OnScreen Marking (OSM) system of online assessment that was introduced this year.

The technical errors, lack of preparation, shortage of examiners and poor understanding of the new system led to this delay. This prolonged delay scared students and parents as their careers were jeopardised. Students wanting to study further in foreign universities, applying for job opportunities or shifting to another city for higher studies faced a tough time.

Results of the Commerce course comprising of Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) and Master of Commerce (M.Com.) were declared at the end as this was the largest course consisting of over one lakh students. Devanand Shinde, acting Vice-Chancellor of the MU, told the Free Press Journal, “These courses consisted subjects like audit, accounting and finance where the number of teachers was less. And the number of students was huge so announcing these results took more time.”

Parents and students are relieved as the turmoil is over finally. Students said, “We have been queuing up at the university campus waiting for our results and we are happy that finally this nightmare has ended.”

While parents said, “We are happy that the University initiated a help desk to save the future, career and money of students opting for higher studies.” During this period more than 17 lakh answer scripts were uploaded, scanned and evaluated through the online assessment process while few answer scripts were checked manually. The senior officials of the MU were replaced by new officers and also other universities were got on board to help speed up the process.

Lakhs of students are finally relieved as all the results are announced. Few results are withheld in reserve (RR) which will be cleared soon. Arjun Ghatule, acting head of examination department of MU, said, “We request students to wait and cooperate with us.”

9,700 results have been kept in reserve.
