Take steps to prevent delay in future: HC

Observing that imparting training to teachers before introducing a new technology is necessary, the Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Mumbai University to file a detailed affidavit. The HC has asked the varsity that declared all the results after three months’ delay, to spell the steps it propose to undertake to ensure that such a situation is not repeated again in future.

A division bench of Anoop Mohta and Justice Bharati Dangre observed, “We are not against introduction of new technology, we are just concerned that the people for whom the technology is brought in, are trained well in advance to use it.”

The observation was made after the judges were told that the varsity has declared all the results on Friday. The judges were hearing a batch of petitions highlighting the plight of students, who could not complete the admission procedure as the varsity had not declared their results.

The HC has also asked the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell to go ahead with the admissions for the law courses, as it too could not complete with the requisite procedure owing to the delay in results declaration. The judges have asked the CET Cell to start its work by Monday.

The judges have granted two weeks’ time to the varsity to spell out the steps it proposes to undertake to ensure that a similar situation is not repeated in future.

The varsity’s affidavit will also have to shed light on how it managed to handle the crisis of delayed results.
