Muslim organisation Awami Vikas Party has raised objection on upcoming Marathi movie ‘Halal’ based on triple talaq. The party claimed the film portrays the character of Maulana wrongly and the film may create law and order situation if it is released. However, Rajan Khan, the writer of the novel on which the film is based, said that the producer has made some changes in his original novel while making the film.

Halala, the novel of wellknown Marathi writer Rajan Khan was published in 2014, and Amol Kagne has produced the film based on it. After screening the film twice before the censor board, it has been given the green signal to release on October 6 across the state.

According to Kagane, the film has received a grand response in Cannes and London film festival. “The story is based on the tradition of triple talaq and difficulties women face if their husbands want to patch up with them once again,” Kagane had said recently during an interview to a channel.

Samsher Khan Pathan, president of Awami Vikas Party, which works for the upliftment of Muslim community raised objection to the movie. “Maulana is the religious guru of Muslim community and we have great respect towards him. But in the film, the character of Maulana is defamed by the producer and the director of the film,” said Khan.

The former cop said that Halala and not Halal means divorced women has to marry another person, has to stay with him for some period. Then, when the second husband gives her talaq, she can marry her first husband. He alleged, “In the movie, Maulana was shown marrying with the divorced women for a single night, has intercourses with her. This maligns the image of all maulanas as it is not the fact.” He added that in the Quran, it is not mentioned that a Maulana will marry such women for Halala. “Speaking talaq word for three times at single incidence is also wrong,” he said.

He said that this film will responsible for the anger within Muslim community and government should intervene in this sensitive issue despite the Censor Board approving the film.

Rajan Khan said, “In Quran, it is mentioned that talaq should be spoken on three different occasions and not at a single time. In second marriage, the women have to stay with the new husband for at least three months and have to take care to not become pregnant. The third and important point is the second husband if he gives her divorce or dies in natural course only then the woman can marry her original (first) husband.”

Khan said that to make the movie dramatic, the producer or director may have changed his original story which they have rights according to agreement between the writer and the producer.
