Another MU shocker for students, exam fee for UG/PG courses hiked
Students opting of Undergraduate and Postgraduate (UG/PG) courses under the Mumbai University (MU) are in a fix over the hike of the examination fees for these courses.
The students claim that they were not informed about this earlier and this revision will affect every semester examination. Students of the Institute of Science, Mumbai, stated that they were informed about this fee hike by a notice put up in their college. The students have found the hike to be exorbitant and have claimed that they were not given any prior notice about the hike.
The notice stated that the fees of Rs 660 per semester for a Master of Science (MSc.) course has been hiked to Rs 1,560 per semester which means an increment of Rs 900. Tanvi Patil, a student, said, “This fee hike will be applicable for every semester. In addition, there are many ‘allowed to keep terms (ATKT)’ students who have to repeat certain semester examinations. These students will be burdened to pay thousands of rupees considering the revised structure of examination fees.”
The students approached the MU officials to question this sudden change. Leeladhar Bansod, public relations officer of the MU said, “The examination fees for all UG/PG courses were never increased in all these years. It is only the examination fee that is revised while the remaining fees like admission fee are the same. We have informed colleges about the revised examination fee structure well in advance.” This fee hike will also be applicable for those students who are applying first time for admissions to PG courses this year.
A student said, “It would have been less of a trouble if we were informed in advance about this fee hike. First of all our graduation results were delayed. And now that the admission deadline was postponed and this new fee structure has come in.”
