23-yr-old man arrested for kidnapping, raping minor

Samata Nagar Police have arrested a 23-year-old man who had kidnapped a minor girl, took her to his hometown in Chandrapur district where he raped her multiple times for several days.

The police said the accused, Amol Velade, and the 15-year-old girl worked in an imitation jewellery shop and live in same neighbourh­ood of Kandivali (east).

The sources said Velade lured the girl on pretext of marrying her and in June he took her to his hometown Chandrapur.

The girl’s mother registered a missing complaint at the Samata Nagar police station on June 17.

“A missing complaint was registered on June 17. Since the girl was minor, so we added kidnapping section of IPC as per Supreme Court’s guidelines,” said an officer from Samata Nagar police station.

The zonal Deputy Commission­er of Police Dr. Vinay Kumar Rathod formed a team to investigat­e the case. Meanwhile, Velade had learnt that victim’s mother has registered case.

“He promised the girl to marry her and allowed her to travel to Mumbai with his relatives,” added the officer. Her medical tests were conducted and its results indicates that she was raped.

The police said Velade was in touch with the owner of imitation jewellery shop where the duo worked together.

The police retrieved Velade’s Call Data Records (CDR) and his location was traced to Chandrapur where the police team went, nabbed him on September 22 and brought back to Mumbai.

Velade has been booked for kidnapping and rape charges of Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as under relevant sections of POCSO Act.

He was produced before metropolit­an magistrate court that sent him to police custody till September 29.
