Tusks worth Rs 10 lakh seized, 2 held

Kasarwadwa­li police have seized two tusks worth Rs. 10 lakh on Monday night.

Police inspector of Kasarwadwa­li police station had receieved an informatio­n about some people were coming to sell the tusks. The staff including local detection branch assistant police inspector Sandeep Patil and sub-inspector Kothare and the other staff members laid a trap at Unnati green city building at Kasarwadwa­li area.

The two accused arrested in this case came on the spot around 7.45 at night. One of the person was carrying a sack on his back. These two were waiting for the other people when the police approached them. The duo sensing the danger, started running away. The police team then nabbed them and were searched.

The person carrying the sack had two tusks in the bag.

"These tusks are worth rs.10 lacs. One of which is of 1.2k.g and other is 1.6 k.g. There has been a replica of an African lady has been engraved on these tusks. We are looking out for the people who were about to buy these tusks which are prohibited." said, Sandeep Patil, Assistant Police inspector, Kasarwadwa­li.

The accused are identified as, Nilesh Nanavare(25) who is a resident of Pune and Ajinky bagul (25) is also a resident of Pune. Nilesh was carrying the sack on his back and works as a worker.

The two have been registered under the wildlife conservati­on act(1972) 9( hunting ),39,44,48( a ),49,51.
