MSRTC to scan accidental claims

- STAFF REPORTER

The management of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has begun monitoring for bogus accidental claims after a similar case involving a doctor and a lawyer has come to the fore.

The case involves them issuing fake discharge certificates and disability certificates in order to seek compensation from motor vehicle accident claim.

The case is pertaining to an accident of a bus on Shahapur route which took place in March 2016. At least 30 persons were injured and one person was killed in the incident.

“Out of the total injured persons, at least 27 claimed for a total compensation of Rs 1.17 crore under motor vehicle accident claim. Following this move, false discharge cards and disability certificates were submitted by a doctor from private clinic in Ghatkopar,” said an MSRTC official.

In an enquiry conducted by the officials from safety and vigilance department, the officials found out that only three injured passengers in the bus accident were admitted to the Thane Civil Hospital and discharged two days later.

“The officials also found out that the Thane Civil Hospital did not issue the certificated which were submitted by the motor vehicle accident claim tribunal,” said the official.

It also came to the fore that the doctor at the private medical clinic was fake and not employed with the clinic and also forged the stamp of the clinic.

Thane Nagar Police station has registered a case against a lawyer identified as VR Vishwakarma from Thane civil court and a doctor identified as Mihir Ranaware. Further investigations is underway.
