Online sex racket busted in Mira Road, three arrested
It was routine raid by the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Thane (rural) police to bust at a prostitution racket that was being operated from a posh residential society in Mira Road on Monday.
However, the twist to the to the plot came when the investigators stumbled upon a high profile sex racket which was running through an online portal.
While three female agents including the flat owner have been arrested, two women were rescued from the flesh trade racketeers.
After receiving a tip-off, the AHTU team led by API Sanjay Bangar under the instructions of SP Dr. Mahesh Patil, sent a decoy and after confirmation raided the flat in the posh Shanti Park area of Mira Road.
The agents identified as Kiran Mishra (45), Poonam Agarwal (30) and Zeenat Singh (32) were caught red handed while accepting Rs. 3,000 for each women.
During investigations, the cops stumbled upon an online prostitution racket that was operated by one of the accused via a web portal to lure clients under the garb of massage and escort services.
While a case under the various sections stringent Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act, has been registered against the trio, the rescued women (aged 25 and 39) have been sent to a rehabilitation centre.
“During the raid, we found that one of the pimps placed advertisements on web portals. The case has been handed over to the Mira Road police who will now investigate the case especially the online prostitution angle,” said, API Bangar.
Posh residential areas in Mira Road seem to have become a preferred destinations for sex trade racketeers.
