MMRC claims safety measures taken for smooth construction

- STAFF REPORTER

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) on Friday claimed that it is undertaking all safety measures in order to ensure the piling work for Metro 3 outside adjacent buildings does not affect the building structure in any way.

The corporation has claimed that it has conducted a Building Condition Survey (BCS), which will help in understanding the vulnerability of the structures before initiating the construction work.

They added that the BCS of the adjacent structures will help designers of the contractor to evaluate the strength of these buildings for assigning allowable impact limit categories.

The contractors have finalised the design for tunnelling, keeping in mind the impact limits of existing adjacent building categories.

Recently, several institutes had complained about damages caused to their structures due to the construction work of Metro 3.

The Siddharth College at Fort had complained about how the ongoing construction work has affected their heritage structure.

The college is a Grade II heritage structure and claimed that the underground metro line work is affecting their foundation.

Ashwin Bhide, Managing Director of MMRC, had said, “The entire building was inspected thoroughly as a part of Building Condi- tion Survey and a detailed report encapsulating the observations was shared with the college authorities and as per the report, all the cracks and other abnormalities existing in the building before Metro work started were mapped and appropriate monitoring instruments have been installed.”
