Water leaks through roof of Mumbai local train, video goes viral
A video of water leaking through the roof of a Mumbai local train on the Central line during heavy downpour went viral on social media on Monday. This came to the fore at a time when safety audit is being conducted by each departments of central railways.
On Sunday night, a commuter who was travelling on a Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Khopoli fast local train shot a video of rainwater leaking through the roof of the train. The commuter was travelling in the general compartment when the water began leaking through the roof of the train.
A commuter, who witnessed the water leaking through the roof, said that the incident could have caused a short circuit. “It was raining heavily when the train was about to reach Shelu station which comes before Neral on the main line. Suddenly, the commuters began vacating the general compartment since rainwater was leaking through the roof. The central railways must find a solution to this as it can cause electrical accidents,” said Vaibhav Chorge, a resident of Khopoli.
The commuters began vacating the compartment and alighted at Shelu station. The central railway authorities said that repair works had been conducted after the concerned departments were informed about the incident. “The rainwater seeped into the exhaust fan inside the compartment. We are investigating the incident and taking steps so that it is not repeated,” said a CR official.
