Rahul starts second leg of Guj tour, slams Modi, Shah

- R.K. MISRA

No sooner did Prime Minister Narendra Modi leave Gujarat on Sunday that his principal challenger Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi returned on Monday to pick up from where he had left off in the political campaign in pollbound Gujarat.

Gandhi wasted no time in launching a blistering attack on the Narendra Modi government and hauling BJP chief Amit Shah over the rising fortunes of his son’s business after the NDA government came to power at the Centre.

Gandhi who is touring central Gujarat took potshots at the Modi government and Shah while addressing crowds that cheered when he attacked the ruling dispensation.

”This government has eyes for only a handful of industrialists. For over a decade the company of Shah’s son had nothing to show but started making gains only after 2014. It is a strange world. A company started with Rs 50,000 in just one year jumps to Rs 80-crore entity. This is really ‘start-up India’, ‘Make in India’” he said.

The Congress vice-president was at his sarcastic best, buoyed perhaps by a responsive audience as he repeatedly lunged into his opponent during the second phase of his ‘navsarjan yatra’ which began from Nadiad.

”Where is the security guard who would say that neither would he indulge in corruption nor allow others to do it (na khaunga na khane dunga). This is the real picture of Gujarat,” he added.

Taking the inter-active session with the audience further was it not claimed that I have a 56 inch chest and I alone shall provide employment and nobody will have to do anything.

The reality is that every 24 hours, 30,000 unemployed youth enter the job market but only 450 get jobs. In China, everyday 50,000 youth get employment. The single biggest problem facing the country is unemployment,” he pointed out. Gandhi said it is high time that Modi accepted his failure.

“Modi may keep blaming the Congress but he would do well to pay attention to what former Prime Minister and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee had to say about the contribution of the Congress in national development while speaking in Parliament”.

Gandhi also visited the Santram temple in Nadiad and spoke to the crowds gathered there. He elicited good response as he waved, spoke and even took pictures from his cell phone. Later he also visited the house of late Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Karamsad and garlanded his statue as well as that of Mahatma Gandhi.”

”What will you call it , start-up India or make-in India, when you destroy small businesses, traders and ordinary people and from it’s ashes arise companies like the one of the offspring of this BJP leader,” he added.
