Kaskar extortion case: Police probe Mulund bar dancer

The Thane crime branch is interrogat­ing a bar dancer who performs at Mulund’s Huma Palace Bar in connection to the extortion case against gangster Iqbal Kaskar. Kaskar reportedly gifted her Rs 15 lakh worth jewellery which was extorted from a Thane jeweller.

Meanwhile, the Intelligen­ce Bureau (IB) is keeping tabs on the investigat­ions by Thane CB in the extortion cases registered against the D-gang. The IB has been keeping close tabs after the fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim is wanted as an accused in the extortion ring operated by Dawood, his brothers Ibrahim Kaskar, Anees Ibrahim and their close aide Chhota Shakeel.

According to a police official, “The IB has accessed the documents related to the case. The case papers have also been shared with the Enforcemen­t Directorat­e (ED) too. The copies of the detailed statements of Kaskar’s recent revelation­s before the Thane crime branch have also been shared with the agency.”

The details regarding Kaskar being in touch with his brothers Anees and Dawood’s wife Mehjabeen, the conversati­ons between the brothers over Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) have been shared with the IB. During his earlier joint questionin­g by the IB and the Thane police, Kaskar had mentioned Mehjabeen’s visit to Dubai last year.

The IB has taken a copy of the FIR against Dawood, Anees and Kaskar. According to a Thane crime branch official, “We are in touch with the agency and have been providing them with all the requisite details pertaining to the case. The IB might interrogat­e Kaskar again if required.” On Tuesday, Kaskar and his accomplice­s Israr Ali Sayyad and Mumtaz Shaikh were remanded to four more days of police custody by the Thane Magistrate court.
