Woman constable helps commuter deliver baby girl at Dadar rly station
In a heart-warming incident that restores one’s faith in humanity, a woman constable attached to Railway Protection Force (RPF) took charge and helped a pregnant woman deliver a baby girl on a local train at Dadar station late on Monday evening. 26-year old Salma Sheikh was taking a local train to King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital when she experienced labour pain and RPF constable Neeta Majhi came to her rescue at the station.

coach reserved for disabled persons, with her two sisters and mother, of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) bound train at 9:40pm when started experiencing labour pain.
“An on-duty RPF helpline staffer Mamta Singh informed Dadar RPF constable Neeta Majhi that a passenger travelling was experiencing labour pain. She provided the necessary details of the train and coach position. As the constable was informed about it after the train crossed Matunga station, she immediately rushed to alert the doctors in order to attend to her,” said a senior RPF official.
Majhi alerted the doctor at Dadar’s on-duty one-rupee clinic who then attended to the pregnant woman after the train reached the station. After entering the coach, Majhi along with her colleagues cleared the coach of male commuters to enable the woman deliver the baby. The train was stopped for at least 21 minutes in order to help the woman deliver the baby.
“The swift action of the RPF officials and the doctors has helped me deliver the baby without any complications. Railway officials have put in their best efforts for helping me deliver the baby. I am thankful to them,” said Sheikh.
