Scuffle breaks out in local train over pregnant woman occupying disabled’s seat

A cross complaint was registered by two parties after a scuffle broke out between a couple and two disabled persons on a train on October 10. The scuffle broke out when the disabled persons got into an argument after a man and his pregnant wife who had occupied a seat inside the coach reserved for disabled persons.

On Thursday, Ganesh Tiwari (30) had boarded a Kasara-bound local train with his wife Aruna Tiwari (27) from Chhtrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station. “Tiwari had occupied the coach reserved for the disabled persons as he was travelling with his wife who was pregnant. The two unknown disabled persons boarded the same coach from Kurla station,” said the official.

The disabled persons questioned Tiwari and his wife for occupying the coach which is reserved for disabled persons. “They also demanded an answer from Tiwari’s wife for boarding the same coach and asked them to board a different coach. A scuffle broke out after a disabled man slapped the man and forced him to vacate the seat,” said a railway police official.

The scuffle between the two parties continued till they reached Mulund station. The Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case under the Indian Penal Code sections of 323 of punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt, section 504 Intentiona­l insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and section 506 for Punishment for criminal intimidati­on.

“Both the parties have filed a cross complaint against each other. Tiwari and his wife filed a complaint against the disabled persons at Kurla (GRP). Subsequent­ly, the two disabled persons filed a complaint against the other party at Kalyan GRP,” said the official.
