Withdrawal of paramilitary from Darj is undemocratic, unconstitutional: Mamata
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her displeasure over the Union government’s decision to withdraw the central force from trouble-torn Darjeeling. She was addressing the media persons after the third round of meeting of all major political parties of Darjeeling to chalk out a solution to the present problem in the hills on Monday at Nabanna-the state secretariat.
The Union Home department has decided to withdraw seven companies of central force from Darjeeling.
“Without informing us, the Centre has decided to withdraw the force from the hills. I wrote to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh requesting them not to withdraw the forces from the hills. I hope they will consider my request,” she said.
She said this decision is an insult to the people of the Darjeeling when a young police officer was killed by the supporters of Bimal Gurung. She alleged that even though a state BJP leader visited Darjeeling and sent a report to the party, the Centre has taken any action.
Mamata Banerjee said that while the Centre as deployed 252 companies in Chhattisgarh, 48 companies in Bihar, 40 in Delhi, 154 in Jharkhand and 84 in Odisha, they have decided to withdraw seven companies of paramilitary force from Darjeeling. Now only eight companies are there in the hills.
