Ranji Trophy: Victories for Saurashtra, Vidarbha

Saurashtra off-spinner Vandit Jivrajani (6/79) bowled brilliantl­y to bundle out Jammu and Kashmir for 256 runs in their second innings, helping his side clinch their second consecutiv­e victory in Group B of the Ranji Trophy at Rajkot on Monday.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir were forced to follow-on after they were bowled out for 156 runs in their first innings.

Rain played spoilsport in the Ranji Trophy Group “C” match between Tamil Nadu and Tripura at the M A Chidambara­m Stadium in Chennai with only seven overs being possible on the third day on Monday. Resuming at the overnight score of 332 for 2, the home side lost two wickets including that of centurion M S Washington Sundar and finished the day at 357 for 4 in 88 overs, taking a lead of 99 runs over Tripura in the first innings.

In Group D, Vidarbha rode on brilliant bowling from spinning duo Akshay Karnewar (6/47) and Akshay Wakhare (4/83) to bundle out Punjab for 227 runs, registerin­g victory by an innings and 117 runs in Mohali.

Meanwhile, defending champions Gujarat in Group B edged closer to victory, posting 22/1 at stumps on Day 3 against Kerala.

The hosts required 83 runs to clinch victory on the final day of the match at the GS Patel Stadium in Nadiad.

In the other Group A match between Hyderabad and Uttar Pradesh, rain continued to play spoil sport, thus the third consecutiv­e day of the match was called-off without a single ball being bowled at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad.
