After decades, people finally get a ‘clear’ road to Bhayandar station

- SURESH GOLANI

The best way to describe the west side of Bhayandar railway station was ‘a crowded mess!’

One of the busiest stations on the western line, the premises was inundated by hawkers, illegal shops and hotels on both sides of the access road. However, after catapulting to power with absolute majority in the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), the BJP has started taking bold people friendly steps in the city.

After launching a drive to widen junctions and squares in the city, the BJP-ruled governance under the leadership of local legislator Narendra Mehta has now won accolades by achieving a feat which none of their predecessors could do in the past more than three decades, it has provided a much needed breathing space to the precincts of the Bhayandar station by getting rid of hawkers and pulling down encroachments including-illegal stalls and eateries to open up a lot of space for commuters, pedestrians and motorists who had been jostling for space on the heavily congested station road area.

“The newly built subway which will soon be thrown open for motorists would have compounded traffic woes on the narrow stretch of road. It had become very crucial to decongest the station road premises. Legitimate laimants were compensated.” said Mehta.

“It’s a long wait. Since more than two decades, I have been travelling on these stretches and now it’s a much smoother ride, thanks to MBMC and elected representatives who have widened the station road area.” said Jatin Shah, a Bhayandar resident.

Illegal structures were demolished and the road immediately concretised to ensure that encroachments did not crop up again.
